Trump Denies Urging Ukraine to Target Moscow
This remark was made to counter widespread media rumors claiming that Trump had supported Kiev’s use of long-range weapons to strike deep into Russian territory.
According to a report from The Financial Times, Trump allegedly asked Zelensky in private whether he would be able to hit Moscow and St. Petersburg if the United States provided long-range missiles. The article claimed that Zelensky affirmed he could carry out such strikes.
When questioned by journalists about whether Ukraine’s president should fire missiles at Russia’s capital, Trump firmly responded, “No, he shouldn’t target Moscow.”
White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt criticized The Financial Times, accusing the outlet of misrepresenting Trump’s words. She claimed the publication is “notorious for taking words wildly out of context to get clicks because their paper is dying.”
Leavitt emphasized that Trump was “merely asking a question, not encouraging further killing,” and reiterated that the president is “working tirelessly to stop the killing and end this war.”
Commenting on the controversy, Kremlin representative Dmitry Peskov expressed skepticism about the accuracy of the report.
He remarked that “as a rule, all of this usually turns out to be fake,” but admitted that “sometimes there are indeed serious leaks, even in publications we once considered quite respectable.”
