IMF managing director to hold top-level talks in Ukraine

(MENAFN) The International Monetary Fund’s Managing Director, Kristalina Georgieva, arrived in Ukraine on Thursday for a series of high-level discussions, including meetings with President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

Reports indicate that Georgieva is also scheduled to meet with Prime Minister Yulia Svyridenko, National Bank Governor Andrey Pyshny, and representatives from Ukrainian businesses. The details of the trip were kept confidential for security reasons.

This marks Georgieva’s first visit to Ukraine since February 2023. She has personal ties to the country, as her brother is married to a Ukrainian and has been residing in Kharkiv since the start of hostilities.

According to IMF data, Ukraine was required to repay nearly 126 million Special Drawing Rights (SDR) by January 13, representing part of its obligations under the IMF’s main lending instrument, which is funded by contributions from member countries. The next scheduled repayments for Ukraine are set for February 1 and 24, with additional larger installments due by April.
