Ukraine Moves to Sanction Over Alleged Grain Shipment to Israel

(MENAFN) Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has announced that Kyiv is preparing a new sanctions package after claiming that a ship carrying grain taken from Russian-occupied Ukrainian territories arrived in Israel.

In a statement posted on the social media platform X, Zelenskyy said the measures are being developed using intelligence information and will target individuals and entities allegedly involved in transporting and profiting from the grain.

He said the sanctions would apply to “both those directly transporting this grain and the individuals and legal entities attempting to profit from this criminal scheme.”

Zelenskyy stressed that purchasing stolen goods carries legal consequences in any functioning legal system, adding that the same principle applies to grain he says was taken from Ukraine during Russia’s control of occupied areas.

He further claimed that another vessel carrying such grain had docked at an Israeli port and was preparing to unload its cargo. He said:
“This is not – and cannot be – legitimate business. The Israeli authorities cannot be unaware of which ships are arriving at the country’s ports and what cargo they are carrying,” Zelenskyy said.

The Ukrainian president added that Kyiv will coordinate with European partners to ensure that individuals involved are also added to EU sanctions lists as part of broader enforcement efforts against what Ukraine describes as illegal grain trade linked to the war.
