Zelenskyy Holds Talks with Spanish Parliament Speaker in Kyiv

(MENAFN) Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced Tuesday that he met in Kyiv with Francina Armengol, the speaker of Spain’s Congress of Deputies, to discuss a range of security and defense-related issues.

In a statement shared on Telegram, Zelenskyy said the discussions centered on military cooperation, air defense systems, and broader European security efforts.

“Held a meeting with the Chairman of the Congress of Deputies of Spain, Francina Armengol. First of all, we discussed defense cooperation — air defense, development of PURL (Prioritized Ukraine Requirements List) and SAFE (Security Action for Europe) programs,” he said.

According to Zelenskyy, both parties agreed on the importance of Europe strengthening its ability to independently protect its airspace against ballistic missiles, drones, and other security threats.

The talks also covered plans for a proposed international tribunal addressing the crime of aggression against Ukraine, along with initiatives aimed at returning children reportedly deported or displaced during the conflict.

Zelenskyy voiced appreciation for the ongoing backing provided by Spain’s parliament, government, and citizens, pointing to continued political, military, and humanitarian support since the outbreak of Russia’s full-scale invasion.

He additionally thanked European allies after a separate gathering of national security advisers, noting that efforts are advancing to enhance Europe’s anti-ballistic defense systems and establish what he described as a “coalition on anti-ballistic protection.”
